Dominic Paquet is one of the funniest showmen working in the business today. A comedian, an actor and a host, he wows with his physical numbers, his exuberant impersonations and his impressive vocal skills. Starting in fall 2020, he’ll be back on stage with a fourth one-man show, Laisse-moi partir.
Originally from Kirkland, Dominic graduated from l’École nationale de l’humour in 1988. Early on in his career he made a name for himself by taking part in Quebec’s biggest comedy events. Acclaimed by the critics and praised by his peers, Dominic did sets at Just for Laughs (televised on TVA) and the Festival Grand Rire de Québec, which took his career as a comic to the next level.
At the Gala les Olivier in 2006 and 2007, his many nominations were a testament to the quality of his art and his talent. He won Discovery of the Year in 2006 and his first one-man show earned no less than four nominations at the 2007 gala for Best Comedy Show, Writer, Director and Actor. With distinctions such as these, Dominic proved that he was at the height of his game.
In addition to his stage work, Dominic Paquet is also well known in radio and TV. Since the early 2000s, he has collaborated on several radio shows on CKOI and NRJ. He often appears on Les chums du matin (NRJ Mauricie), Le retour (CKOI) and Midi Morency (CKOI). In the summer of 2008, he shared the airwaves with Patrick Groulx at the helm of the show Dominic et Martin (NRJ). Dominic also has extensive TV experience. He has appeared on various shows including Prière de ne pas envoyer de fleurs, LOL, Vrak la vie, Juste pour rire en direct, Messmer: Drôlement mystérieux, Il était une fois dans le trouble, 2 laits, un sucre, 450, chemin du golf, Ça va être ta fête, Fun noir, Testostérone, Canal des nouvelles modifiée, and Les Chick’N Swell. For the past few years, Dominic and Philippe Bond have also garnered attention for their highly original awards presentations at the Gala les Olivier.
In October 2010, Dominic launched his second one-man-show, Paquet voit le jour. In a glamorous Broadway décor, the comic puts on a no-holds-barred physical show, embodying over forty different characters on the stage. He is a master impersonator who can change his voice at will and impress with his vocal range. The show, directed by Michel Courtemanche, toured Quebec with a final performance on October 24, 2012 at the Salle Albert-Rousseau. A total of 70,000 tickets were sold for the 150 shows. In May 2011, Dominic earned another nomination at the Gala les Olivier for Director (Paquet voit le jour) and Comedy DVD (Dominic Paquet).
In the summer of 2012, Dominic co-hosted his first Just for Laughs Gala entitled Les Immatures, sharing the stage with Cathy Gauthier and Philippe Laprise. In the summer of 2013, he was invited to host the Festival Grand Rire de Québec Gala, charming the public and critics alike with his outrageous hosting style. The festival team was so impressed they invited him back to host the 2014 edition.
Since the fall of 2013, Dominic has been an actor on the renowned show À la semaine prochaine, which airs Saturdays on ICI Radio-Canada Première. The wide range of characters he brings to life solely with his voice never ceases to amaze. On December 31, 2013, he was part of a special airing of the show on ICI Radio-Canada Télé, which went on to win an Olivier in the category Comedy Radio Show at the 2014 Gala les Olivier. Dominic is also one of the actors in the Loto Québec Mise-o-jeu ad campaign. In 2014, for the third consecutive year, Dominic was the spokesperson for the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge. He loves being a part of such a big team and never hesitates to shave his own head every year.
In the fall of 2014, in addition to his radio gig with À la semaine prochaine and his TV spots for Mise-o-jeu, Dominic collaborated on the new show Direct dans l’net on Z Télé, where he shares his most recent finds on the web which are always good for a laugh. Starting in April 2015, Dominic will take his third one-man-show, Rien qu’s’une gosse, on tour across Quebec. While everyone else is living life at breakneck speed, Dominic is slowing down, contemplating the world and taking note of our foibles to better exaggerate them. What better premise for this all-new show that promises to be a total riot.
Dominic Paquet is a true phenomenon in Quebec and he has only begun to flex his many comedic muscles.
